In the 1990s, Bill Hatcher managed Domaine Drouhin Oregon. In 2002 Hatcher left DDO to form A to Z Wineworks with three other wine industry veterans: Deb Hatcher (Eyrie Vineyards), Sam Tannahill (Archery Summit) and Cheryl Francis (Chehalem). A to Z was very successful and able to expand, purchasing Rex Hill Winery with investor Gregg Popovich, coach of the San Antonio Spurs, and hiring Head Winemaker Michael Davies. The size of the operation allows for economies of scale, unusual in Oregon, and keeps prices reasonable. “The Essence of Oregon” is a special release.
