Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes: Blackberry, Cassis, Black Tea, Chocolate
Fred Schrader founded Schrader Cellars in 1998 with the goal of making the best Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon possible. Today, Schrader is known for 100-point, uber-expensive, hard-to-get wine. Thankfully, they realized this and produced a Schrader for the rest of us-- The Double Diamond. Handcrafted by winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, these lush and accessible wines are ripe and ready to enjoy upon release.
This former Wine Spectator #1, Double Diamond is a captivating Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced mostly from Mondavi's portion of the To Kalon Vineyard. It's medium to full-bodied, rich, and firm with good depth, pleasing acidity, and a fine tannic framework. It sees 54% new French oak. The sleek palate is marked by notes such as blackberry, plum, cherry, dark chocolate, cassis, oolong tea, flint, delicate oak, and lavender. Pair with a big, juicy porterhouse steak.
