Shop > Georgian Legend Rkatsiteli

Here we have a very different and very orange expression of Rkatsiteli than the first wine in this week’s tasting! While made with the same grape, this wine is made in the traditional Georgia Qvevri method, where grapes are put into beeswax-sealed clay amphorae buried partially underground with skin contact for the length of fermentation. While hip winemakers around the world have been dipping their toes into “orange” wine production, the Georgians have been at it for millennia! The result here is a wine with an exotic, yet clean and precise nose of dried apricots, peaches, honey and herbs. Well concentrated with a sappy texture, the tannin on the finish comes as a bit of a surprise to the Western palate, but it complements the wine’s exuberant golden fruit perfectly!
