Shop > Pinot Grigio Kurtatsch Cortaccia Alto Adige

This is a serious white wine at a remarkably modest price. Cantina Kurtatsch is a cooperative with 190 members cultivating 190 hectares of vineyards. That works out to an average of only 2.5 acres per grower. The vineyards lie at altitudes between a uniquely low 220 meters and a more typical 900 meters. Grapes for this wine are grown at both 220 meters and 650 meters. In the lower areas, Pinot Grigio develops mild acidity, while the high alcohol and extract content contribute to strength and flavor. It gets freshness and fine mineral-rich spice that takes on a fiery varietal perfume of gooseberries, lime-tree flowers, and acacia blossoms from the lime-rich soils at the higher elevation on fantastically steep slopes of Kurtatsch-Penon. The blending of mountain and valley grapes creates an extraordinary Pinot Grigio with the total class and creamy suppleness of the south and the seriousness on the palate of the north. Pinot Grigio has been at home in Alto Adige since the first “Pinot Gris” was introduced from Burgundy by Archduke Johann of Austria in 1852. Limited.
