Raul Perez has become a wine sage in NW Spain. I just ran into him in the City recently and was once again super-impressed with his wines. His 2020 Bierzo Ultreia St. Jacques is phenomenal. Made mostly from Mencia, a regional varietal, it tastes like a hypothetical blend of Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir. It’s blackish but not over-extracted, dry but not austere, with a deep core of ripe blackberry fruit, tones graphite and other black minerals, a medium-full texture and a seamless palate feel to the finish. A great option off the beaten path. Armando-Sparrow W & L Company
